GDC at ARGeo-C11: Advancing Africa’s Geothermal Future Through Experience, Innovation and Partnership
Moroni, Union of the Comoros — October 2026

As Africa accelerates the transition toward clean, reliable and sustainable energy, geothermal energy is emerging as one of the continent’s most strategic renewable resources.
At the heart of this transformation is the experience of institutions that have moved beyond resource potential to practical geothermal development.

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) of Kenya is one of them.

GDC will be part of ARGeo-C11, the 11th African Rift Geothermal Conference, taking place in Moroni, Union of the Comoros, from 19–24 October 2026, under the theme:
“Unlocking Africa’s Geothermal Resource Potential: A Pathway to Sustainable Development.”

From geothermal potential to practical development

Established in 2008 as a fully government-owned company, GDC was created to accelerate the development of Kenya’s geothermal resources.
Its mandate spans the geothermal value chain — from surface exploration and resource assessment to exploration, appraisal and production drilling, steam-field development and management, direct utilization and capacity development. GDC also facilitates private-sector participation by supplying geothermal steam to power producers.
This integrated approach has contributed to Kenya’s emergence as one of Africa’s leading geothermal markets.

In 2026, GDC reported that more than 390 MW of geothermal power generated from steam developed by the Company at Menengai and Olkaria had been connected to Kenya’s national grid, highlighting the impact of long-term investment in geothermal resource development.

Why GDC’s participation matters to ARGeo-C11

GDC’s presence brings more than institutional representation.
It brings African experience that can be shared, discussed and adapted.
At ARGeo-C11, geothermal professionals, governments, investors, researchers, developers, financial institutions and technology providers will have the opportunity to engage with experiences from Kenya and other geothermal markets across Africa.

Participants can benefit from discussions around:

• Geothermal resource assessment and exploration
• Exploration, appraisal and production drilling
• Steam-field development and management
• Geothermal reservoir management
• Direct uses of geothermal energy
• Capacity building and knowledge transfer
• Public–private partnerships and investment
• Risk reduction and geothermal project development

GDC’s experience is particularly relevant to African countries seeking to move from geothermal potential to bankable and sustainable projects.
A platform for knowledge, partnerships and investment
ARGeo-C11 is designed not simply as a conference, but as a platform where knowledge meets investment and collaboration.
The conference brings together government leaders, geothermal developers, utilities, investors, financial institutions, researchers, technology companies and development partners from Africa and beyond.

GDC’s participation therefore creates an important opportunity for participants to exchange practical experiences and explore new partnerships across the geothermal value chain.
For technology providers, engineering companies, financial institutions and development partners, this ecosystem provides a direct opportunity to engage with the people and institutions shaping Africa’s geothermal future.

Why this matters for sponsors

Supporting ARGeo-C11 means supporting more than a conference.
It means supporting Africa’s transition from geothermal potential to sustainable energy development.
Sponsors will gain visibility within a high-level platform bringing together geothermal professionals, decision-makers, developers, financiers, researchers and industry leaders.
The conference offers sponsorship opportunities ranging from Bronze to Title Sponsor, with benefits including brand visibility, exhibition opportunities, social-media promotion, on-stage recognition and, for selected packages, speaking and panel opportunities.
The presence of leading geothermal institutions such as GDC demonstrates the quality and strategic relevance of the platform.
For companies looking to position themselves within Africa’s growing geothermal economy, ARGeo-C11 offers an opportunity to be part of the conversation — and part of the solution.

Building Africa’s geothermal future together

Africa’s geothermal opportunity is immense. Unlocking it will require more than resources beneath the ground. It will require knowledge, technology, investment, strong institutions and partnerships.
GDC’s experience demonstrates what can be achieved when geothermal development is supported by long-term commitment, technical capacity and strategic partnerships.
At ARGeo-C11, that experience becomes part of a broader African conversation.
From Kenya to the Comoros, from exploration to development, from knowledge to investment — Africa’s geothermal future is being built through collaboration.
